ISD UK celebrates achieving Achilles Carbon Reduce certification

The P & M Group has achieved Achilles Carbon Reduce certification for ISD UK, marking an important step forward in strengthening the credibility of our carbon reporting. This means our greenhouse gas inventory data has been independently verified through a recognised external process against established standards. For our customers, partners and wider stakeholders, this provides confidence that our emissions data, methodology and reporting approach have been tested rigorously and stand up to external scrutiny.

Achilles Carbon Reduce is an externally verified carbon certification programme designed to assess the quality, accuracy and reliability of an organisation’s greenhouse gas reporting. For ISD Solutions UK, the verification was carried out in line with ISO 14064 Part 3:2019 and assessed against the GHG Protocol, including Scope 2 guidance and the Corporate Value Chain Scope 3 Accounting and Reporting Standard. In practice, that means the audit examined far more than the final carbon footprint figure. It looked at the boundaries of our reporting, the emissions sources included, the calculation methods used, the assumptions made, the supporting evidence behind the data and the consistency of our overall approach.

Supporting our wider sustainability strategy

This achievement does not sit in isolation. It aligns closely with our wider sustainability strategy and our ongoing work to improve the quality, consistency and usefulness of our environmental data. We have already been focused on strengthening our internal systems, improving the robustness of our carbon footprinting and building a clearer understanding of where we can make the most meaningful improvements. The Achilles process has reinforced that direction of travel.

One of the most positive outcomes from the audit was that it helped confirm that many of the areas identified for further development were already on our radar. In particular, the review highlighted the importance of continuing to improve data quality, moving further away from spend based data where possible and increasing the use of stronger activity-based data inputs. That matters because activity-based data generally gives a clearer and more accurate picture of emissions than broad financial proxies. The auditor was positive about the proportion of our data already coming from activity-based sources and about our plans for continued improvement in this area.

The process also gave us a stronger understanding of how to approach technical inputs such as Environmental Product Declarations. That kind of learning is important. Good carbon reporting is not simply about gathering numbers but depends on understanding which data is most appropriate, applying the right methodology and improving the quality of inputs over time. External verification helps sharpen that discipline and supports better decision making as our sustainability work continues to mature.

Another important aspect is that this is not a one-off exercise. We will now be audited annually, which gives us a consistent framework for review, challenge and progress over time. Annual external verification supports accountability, but it also helps embed sustainability more deeply into operational practice because it creates a clear cycle of measurement, review and improvement. Alongside that, we are continuing to strengthen our internal processes, including moving towards more regular data collection rather than relying only on annual reporting cycles. That work is already underway and forms part of the broader effort to keep improving the robustness of our reporting.

Ultimately, achieving Achilles Carbon Reduce certification is important because it combines two things that matter to us. First, it provides respected and robust external verification that is recognised across the industry. Second, it supports our wider sustainability strategy by helping us improve data quality, strengthen internal systems and build on the progress already being made. It is a positive milestone and a strong foundation for the next stage of our sustainability journey. It shows that we are committed to transparency, continual improvement and a carbon reporting approach that is credible, practical and fit for the expectations of the market we operate in.
